Sep. 15th, 2011 11:40 pmI came home this morning from the most amazing weekend at the coast with The Ranger. We were going to go camping and I'm glad we changed our plans to end up at a lovely hotel in Seaside. Especially because it sounds like a lot of places on Mt. Hood were evacuated these last few days because of the fires. Oliver stayed home with my mom, which was a first for me. Two days without my baby! It was a weird feeling -- being able to relax so well without having to chase a toddler and missing him SO MUCH at the same time.
Oh, and he's talking a lot now so I was able to say good night to him and kind of hear about his day. Like this: "Hi mama! Poop. Bath. Birds. Grams naked. Bag. Jaycee hiding, bedroom. Night night, mama, lu'you too."
Translation: "Hello, Mother! I have diarrhea and had to take a lot of baths. We went and saw the birds at Chapman School, then Grams took a bath when we came home. I carried my frog bag around the house and filled it with my favorite things. Jaycee is hiding under the bed at the moment. It's bedtime now, Mom. Goodnight, I love you."
So. The weekend. Well, it's her weekend (T/Th). We had such a great time together, which was much needed after the last month. I'm feeling deeply positive about my decision to stick with this thing she and I are doing. There may be a lot more to say about that, but I can't focus that long right now. We spent a good deal of time walking on the beach, climbing things, playing at the candy store, had lots of excellent dirty time, slept in on day... Ugh. It really was perfect.
Now, next Wednesday, I'm heading to Denver to spend time with the person I started dating at festival this summer. I'm enjoying our thing, and there are things I'm nervous about as far as visiting goes. It feels slightly complicated right now. I'm looking forward to in-person time, the phone just doesn't do it sometimes. More on that later, maybe.
School starts two days after I get home from Colorado. You know, if you're going to have a month-long staycation, Portland is so the place for it. I've had the best time of my life in this city. But I gotta say, I'm looking forward to having some structure again. And learning. I'm about to embark on some serious Biology and oh boy am I thrilled! That reminds me, I have started thinking about grad school and I may try and study in Hawaii. They have an excellent entomology program and there are good deals on tuition for non-resident students. It's a long ways away, but I'm going to start putting some lines out now.
