what the fuck is this black. white. bullshit? i'm watching it right now, and there are a bunch of teenage girls in a room with a kid that just "came out" to them as black. they're telling him he talks black. he should talk like this... he should walk like this... dance like this... you're still acting black. then all the girls were like "gina you act black now, ha! that's so funny!" to which he replied "you guys are retarded."
what the fuck is this? please, god, tell me that there are (white) people in middle america watching this and realizing how seriously screwed this is. maybe my friends in high school, maybe taking a little look at themselves.
and don't even get me started on the father's conversation. he wanted to meet successful black men, apparently so he could go off about people "pulling the race card." WHA?? at least his wife seems totally fed up with him.
am i really talking about television? and not the L word?

ok. so... i took my SAT today. i think i did okay. we'll see. i was in a high school for 6 hours. that made me a little crazy. i felt a little panic attack coming on when i got there, but it calmed down after a minute. i felt like they were all staring at me. AND I was the oldest one there.
kay. distracted.
ps. i spent the rest of the day with jbj thrifting and eating, and THAT was just perfect. even though i bought things. things i'll have to ship. but good things. alright. night night.

I watched the first episode and felt like someone had come at my brain with a melonballer. There was no thoughtful self-examination of the participants' internalized (or sometimes externalized--the white dad kept making up stories of people calling him "Nigger/a" when he was in black makeup) racisms. The white people were all saying "ha ha, how will we act and talk black? I guess we just need to loosen up!" and the black people all said, "ha ha, actually yeah, and acting white will be easy because that's what you do to get ahead when you're black."

Awesome. Unfortunately from what I understand there are a lot of people who think it's really daring and bold and illuminating and a bunch of adjectives that only work if you use their antonyms as descriptors instead.

Anyway. There's plenty of fucked up tv...it makes me want to stick to the food network.

ecks oh
