Race and children.

I've seen a number of articles lately addressing white parents and absence of race issues in conversations with their (small) children. Oliver is at an age now where this will be coming up soon, and I would really like to be a responsible parent and ally, but I honestly do not know how to approach it with him. Tonight, as I was cooking my mom's birthday dinner, she put on a movie to watch with him. The Help. Umn. No. I made her change it.
People/characters treating each other poorly in general keeps coming up, too. Issue on repeat. I threw a book in the recycling today.
Anyway, this is just on my mind a lot lately. What a fucking privilege to not know how to talk about this. Maybe I start with The Sneetches and go from there. Sometimes I feel so clueless.
