My advisor told me yesterday that if I wanted to take a year off, teach community college or do whatever I'm going to do and then come back and get me PhD with her, I could. I'm not sure if that's what I want to do, but holy shit I feel good about being offered it! Remember almost exactly one year ago when she threatened to fail me out of my program? Yeah, so... I guess I've effectively turned it around. And maybe this is what i want. She also pointed out that biology education research is a quickly growing field, and something I am becoming passionate about, might be an area to explore for my PhD. The department is hiring a new faculty memeber and that will be their whole job - revamping the introductory biology classes to be more interactive and actually TEACH the students science better. This new hire will be taking graduate students eventually, so maybe I could come back in 2016 and get either a doctorate or a second master's. Crap.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT!
Sigh.
Also, I did my taxes last night and I am apparently getting a huge chunk of money back. This is good, because I'm really freaked out about the time between finishing my master's and finding a job. It will probably not be too long, but... Well, I haven't seen great things from the others who have graduated with master's degrees in biology since I got here. But, again, I need to recognize the fact that I am the luckiest bitch.
These are the things on my mind. This term is almost over. I'm very ready to write my thesis and bring it all together. I'm even more ready to not be the boss again.
