If, this evening, you came to me and asked, "Charlz, how's that weight-loss thing going?" I would tell you I just ate a whole frozen pizza and a candy bar. And it felt good. And that I have shin splints now which means I have to figure out a new way to work out. And it means it hurts to walk to and from work.... It's not about the weight anyway, it's about feeling good again. And I refuse to change the way I eat (though, eating a whole pizza IS a change... I feel premenstrual, I have for weeks now and no period for over 14 months.).
Also. I'm having a date with The BT. Soon. Hopefully Monday. I just have to find a sitter....

Date: 2010-06-04 01:31 pm (UTC)Do you have a diganosis of shin splints, or just some tension and pain in your shins? Cause I have the latter (since I broke my ass 2 summers ago) and rolling them out using a foam roller helps them SO MUCH. Do a youtube search for Foam Roller and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's basically DIY physiotherapy.
Yay for dates!

Date: 2010-06-23 06:40 am (UTC)I didn't exactly get diagnosed, but my girlfriend agreed that it was likely (she's a massage therapist). I should definitely try the roller. In the mean time I've been only doing the exercise bike while reading and then weights. Ten miles today! I love it.
Thanks for the pointers!
Also, I've been meaning to tell you, I figured out a way to dry the ring sling... I put a sock over the rings doubled over so it doesn't clang around. And the quilt you made is my favorite of his blankets. It goes everywhere with us.

a) Hi!
b) Humungous Congrats and love to you for becoming a mom and on the lovely and popular Oliver!!
c) I think of you and often think "Hi Charlz!" but am terrible at follow-through and correspondence
d) on exercise: I hear you sister & what I want to say is that you will find the thing that works for you. When you decide you want to exercise as a goal and then hit a little speed-bump in the form of an injury or persistent aches/pains, well - it sucks. I have many experiences of starting to exercise and then having a serious injury that knocks me out of commission for awhile. Lately, I've been lucky and have been able to consistently exercise - but also I found the right form of exercise for me (biking/spin classes).
Iyengar yoga is fucking amazing - i recommend that highly. I realize it costs $ and may not be so doable but I really recommend taking a beginner series in Iyengar yoga.
I agree with C, that a foam roller is an excellent thing to have - and hopefully would only cost about $20-$25. They are so excellent and totally self-help massage - really good.
Thinking of you and sending you your little guy lots of love!

Date: 2010-06-23 06:48 am (UTC)a) Hello!!
b) Thanks so much. It's really wonderful so far.
c) Likewise, I think of you all the time! It's almost weird, I feel like we've not really spent time together, but I miss you.
d) Yeah, it was a bit disheartening. But, since I couldn't walk/run like I wanted, I started doing the bike. I LOVE it. I get to read and sweat at the same time. I don't feel like it's quite as intense a workout, but it still feels good. It might even be better, since I have an abnormally low heart rate. I 'rode' ten miles today and felt great.
I'll look into the yoga sometime, too. I've still never done yoga, and I'd love to try it. Now I have a gym membership and I could take classes there. I never quite make it to classes during childcare hours.
Alrighty. Hope everything is going well in Swiftyland.
