Well, it's been kind of a weird day in some ways.

I went back to the doctor -- a different one. He also spent about five minutes with me, but he did the right things in those five minutes. He was appalled at the behavior of the last doctor, really surprised. Then he looked at my forehead with a microscopic lens, said "Yep, looks like shingles," and wrote me a prescription. First he went and searched the whole office for a sample and came up dry.
So, I picked my mom up from school shortly after this visit (which I don't have to pay for, did I mention that? My discount is 100%. Phew!). We stopped by the grocery store's pharmacy to drop off the prescription for 2 ounces of the cream to treat my shingles. Asked how much it would be. She went and looked at it in the computer. $184. Okay. Never mind. Thanks.
Then we ran into my mom's friend and colleague, Genevieve, in the produce section. She recently had shingles. She said she may have something at home, stop by and search her medicine cabinet. (She has given me meds in the past when I've been ill or in pain.) So, we got to her house at the same time as her, I helped her with her groceries, and she gave me exactly the same cream I was prescribed. It's only a little bit, but totally enough!! Woohoo!

Mom and I came home and ate mac and cheese and hot dogs for dinner. It was fucking delicious. Then we went to the free movie at the Cape Inn -- State of Play. Bo-ring. Annoying. Political scandal, reporters, murders and misconduct. Blah blah blah. But I love going to free movies. On the way there I listened to my voicemail to discover that the police found my car. I don't know where it was, but now it's at the tow yard by the humane society on Columbia. $128 for the tow, plus $21 per day until I get home and can pick it up next Wednesday. I'm going to let them keep it. I have no dollars for that, for the repairs it needed before, or for any subsequent damage from whoever stole it. They said it was drivable but the dash is all ripped up. So, fuck it. It's a '96 with over 200,000 miles on it that I bought for almost nothing three years ago. It's served me well. Maybe I'll have some kind of ceremony to say goodbye or something. I just hope my little trinkets are still in there along with my shoes. My shoes!! SHOES! (Of course, I won't really be wearing any of them until after this baby comes out and my feet deflate.)

After the movie, I decided to try my dad again. I called him last Sunday but he's been up deer hunting all week with his dad and brothers. He's at my grandma's. But guess where he'll be tomorrow... Boston! With a rental car! So, I'm having dinner with my dad tomorrow. How crazy! I'm pretty excited about it.

So, like I said, weird day. Full of things. And you know what, I hate shingles. But I LOVE being right. This also makes the formal complaint I'll be writing tomorrow about the first doctor so much more valid. I could have been getting treatment for four days by now, no longer be in pain or itch-hell... But I'm really glad it all worked out. I feel lucky today.

have you thought about donating your car to one of those donation for a cause places? they'll pick it up and you'll get a receipt you can use for your taxes. see if the tow pound would let you do that without paying maybe?

good luck with the dr. stuff, what an ass.

I'll definitely ask them. I had thought about it, but hadn't considered that they might let them pick it up without anyone paying anything. I'd much rather donate it to a cause than to a tow company. Thanks for the suggestion!
