I have mismatched thumbs. I've met a couple other people with the same deal (Though Dani's the only one I can remember)... but they have thumbs that closely resemble mine. I keep meaning to google it, and now that i'm trying to study for my biology test, i figured a little postponed distraction is good.
Scientific articles link it to the amino-terminal mismatch-recognition domain (see, I'm still studying biology!). Essentially, it is a failure of some tiny system to recognize and repair my mismatched DNA. Crazy, huh?? below the cut is the funniest thing I've found... aside from the fact that a few people's blogs popped up.

The Murderer's Thumb Unveiled ---- The clubbed thumb (see picture) was traditionally called the "murderer's thumb" denoting the powerful temper of those who carried it. This thumb has a short first phalange (section) and is broad. The tip of the thumb is fleshy and the thumbnail is short and broad. According to those who know, people with clubbed thumbs are strong willed and can control their emotions. Paul Fenton-Smith says: "In almost every case of clubbed thumbs I have seen the person has not lost his or her temper more than five or six times in 30 years. In most cases this person knows on a deep level what he or she is capable of doing when out of temper, and is sensible enough to leave the circumstances which triggered the outburst of temper before doing something which will cause regret. If a crime such as murder is committed, it is likely to be an unplanned affair after the person has "snapped", temporarily losing control over his or her emotions." Since my new friend C. has this kind of thumb (pictured below), I want to test out Paul Fenton-Smith's theory, and see whether she does indeed have an iron control of her emotions.
Mismatched Thumb Sizes ---- As promised above, here is an interesting picture of my friend C.'s two thumbs. As you can see, the thumbs are totally different from each other, which is pretty rare, and also thus very interesting from a Palmistry point of view. Specifically, one of the thumbs (the right-handed one) is clubbed, which as Paul Fenton-Smith pointed out above, is a sign of a strong will. The left-handed thumb is pretty much average. What is there to make of such an oddity? It should be pointed out that over time the thumbs are shaped by your consistent subconscious attitude about doing things, getting results, and succeeding. If your thumbs are strong, that indicates you can take care of yourself and get the results desired. More interesting, Free Hand Analysis claims: "Your left hand shows what is happening in your private and personal life. Your true nature and natural gifts show up best in the left hand. It reveals the way you really want to function in life and how you interact with close friends and family. Your right hand, even if left handed, shows characteristics related mostly to public activities. It shows how you have learned to deal with co-workers, neighbors, and friends. It indicates how you want to be perceived by people outside your private and personal life. Overall, it reveals how you have learned to function in public." In other words, if C, has a deformity in her right thumb, it is due to the way she has consciously decided to live her life. By opting for a strict approach, pushing herself too hard -- perhaps this has led to a clubbed right-hand thumb.

I'm tempted to start getting a hold of strangers and organizing some sort of Association for People With Mutant Thumbs.
