You know what? I grew up in NYC but I was gone for 13 years and became much more soft spoken in those 13 years. Now I am back here in NYC and I actually now hate the interrupting thing. I do interrupt people sometimes, it's hard to break my NYC cultural training (plus my family does it) but I really don't like it. I have a few friends form high school still here, and when we all get together I often feel like I cannot get a word in edgewise so I just give up.
So I feel you. It is a cultrual thing here, hard to get used to. My advice to you (unasked for) is the same advice I gave OMB when we first met and seh complained about how hard it is to keep up with people walking down the street because her legs are shorter than most. I told her "just walk at the pace you want to, and if the person you're with actually wants to walk with you, they will have to slow down." So I say to you, if the people you are with want to hear what you have to say, they will have to make some space for you. If they don't, well then, they are missing out.
